Hey, this is Dr. Perry from Farmington Family Dental. I'm here to talk about some commonly asked questions I have about family dentistry. A lot of families move to the area, new or you're looking for a new dentist. How do you find a dentist who's a family dentist who will take care of you and your family? Our phone number is (573) 637-4404. If you have any additional questions when you're done with these videos, give us a call. We'd be happy to help you out and get you set up to take care of your family.
What is family dentistry?
Family dentistry is dentistry done across all age spectrums. Many dental practices will say, "Hey, we won't see kids below a certain age." There are reasons for that. Suffice it to say, family dentistry is an office that's friendly to a family coming in and having their dental work done. I see a couple of things that are distinct or different in an office that's friendly to families. Primary among them is whether you can get your appointments at a convenient time and together, so it's not a several-day, several-trip kind of affair for your family. The second thing I see is whether you treat children. Do you do the work that needs to be done? In our office, we do much of the work that needs to be done. There are cases where I refer kiddos out for a better experience for them, either for sedation or to get the work done quicker and under control. But in most cases, we do most of the things that we see need treatment here in our office and keep it to seeing a single dentist, single office, and the familiarity involved with that.
What are the benefits of family dentistry?
Family dentistry is comprehensive dentistry. When you think about what a person needs over their lifespan, they need to be taken care of. They need preventative work and consistent care with a practice philosophy of keeping you healthy, not just fixing things. That is the best or highest quality treatment that I can offer to a person. This can be achieved by establishing yourself in our office or another family office and staying there consistently over time.
Do all dentists offer family dentistry?
Some dentists, as far as family dentistry goes, don't offer family dentistry. They don't offer seeing children or don't do a wide spectrum of dental procedures. If you needed a root canal, are you going to get referred out for that? If you need an extraction, do you have to go see the oral surgeon? If you need wisdom teeth out, do you need to go somewhere else? In our office, we do most things here in-house. I'm happy to help. That's how we do our family dentistry, and that's why we put it in our name. We do traditional dentistry across the spectrum of what dentistry offers across the whole field. We go to a lot of training and upkeep to keep it that way so we can deliver a high quality of care for you, and we do it the way I would have it done for my family.
What services fall under family dental care?
Family dental care is kind of a catch-all phrase. The services that fall under that are just everything. It's all types of dentistry. It's everything that needs to be done to get you taken care of.
Hopefully, that was helpful to you, hearing a little bit more about family dentistry and how offices function. Perhaps you've seen different offices and how they function in the past. Those that refer a lot and do just some basic work versus those that don't refer much. They take care of everything in-house and do it at a high level of quality. If you'd like to come and see us and get your family arranged or yourself arranged for dental care, give us a call. Our phone number is (573) 637-4404. I'm Dr. Perry. I'm happy to help. In your first appointment, we'll meet, talk, see what you need, and get your family taken care of. Thanks.
Dentists are specially trained to provide dental care for patients of all ages. A family dentistry practice can provide a wide variety of dental services. Your family dentistry appointment will begin with a thorough dental exam. Our dentist will carefully examine your teeth, gums, jaw, and bite, looking for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other common dental problems. We will also perform an oral cancer screening.
Next, our experienced dental hygienists will perform a thorough cleaning of your teeth. This will remove plaque from your teeth, which is essential to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. We will also suggest any other restorative or preventive procedures required to bring your oral health back to its ideal condition.
Family dentistry for children
At Farmington Family Dental, we understand the importance of taking children to a pediatric dentist. Pediatric dentistry focuses on the oral healthcare needs of children and infants. This means that our dental team has the skills and experience required to ensure your child’s teeth and gums remain healthy and strong. There are many reasons why a child may need to see the dentist. From cavities to gum disease, early prevention is key to a healthy smile.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that a child’s first dental appointment should occur around their first birthday. This visit can be quick and painless and will let your child get accustomed to visiting the dentist’s office. Your dentist will be able to identify potential oral health problems, such as tooth decay, at the start of your child’s development.
Family dentistry for adults
Cavities and gum disease are issues that can significantly bother adults as well. Fortunately, advancements in dentistry make it possible for adults to regain their oral health. At our dental practice, we offer a variety of general and restorative dentistry services. This includes the following procedures:
- Root canals: The procedure of removing the infected dental pulp from the tooth to restore it to its ideal condition.
- Bridges, implants, and dentures: These are dental restorative procedures that are used to replace missing teeth from the mouth. While bridges are the simplest means to replace teeth, dental implants are a stronger and more stable option. Dentures are widely used to restore multiple missing teeth.
- Crowns: Dental crowns are used to cover the external surface of teeth that are cracked, chipped, broken, worn out, or severely damaged. They can be customized to appear just like natural teeth.
- Cavity prevention: We remove the plaque and tartar deposits from the teeth surfaces by scaling and root planing. In case of tooth decay, we offer fillings to cover the cavities.
Benefits of family dentistry
When you come to a family dentist, your entire family can receive care. Family dentists work with people of all ages, from young children to senior citizens. By seeing your family dentist regularly, you ensure that everyone receives the best oral care possible.
However, practicing good oral hygiene at home is very important. But it’s also just as important to visit your dentist regularly for cleanings and exams. These visits help ensure your smile stays healthy and that potential problems can be caught early and treated before they become serious.
